Artist of Merit: T Barny Featured in Monochromica Issue 008
We are thrilled to announce that T Barny has been selected as the Artist of Merit for Issue 008 of MONOCHROMICA — The Journal Of Monochrome Art.
This international publication is dedicated to exceptional monochrome and color-dominant artwork, featuring artists whose work explores the emotional and visual power of a single dominant color palette. Issue 008 centers around GOLD and YELLOW tones, making it the perfect setting for T Barny’s luminous Utah Honeycomb Calcite sculptures.
Known for its extraordinary translucency and glowing internal structure, Utah Honeycomb Calcite has become one of the most captivating stones in T Barny’s studio practice. When carved and polished, the stone reveals layered amber, honey, cream, and golden tones that seem illuminated from within. Combined with Barny’s flowing Möbius-inspired forms, the sculptures create an experience that feels both geological and alive.
For over 45 years, T Barny has explored abstraction through direct stone carving, allowing the character of each material to guide the final form. In these Honeycomb Calcite works, the stone itself becomes an active collaborator. Veins, fractures, translucency, and natural movement all shape the sculpture as it emerges.
Being recognized as Artist of Merit by Monochromica is especially meaningful because the publication focuses on how color alone can shape emotional experience. Barny’s calcite sculptures embody that philosophy naturally. Their golden glow shifts with changing light, transforming throughout the day and inviting viewers to slow down, move around the piece, and experience sculpture as a living presence.
Monochromica is distributed internationally to gallery owners, curators, collectors, consultants, and interior designers, providing a platform for contemporary artists working with strong monochromatic visual language.
As T Barny puts it:
“Honeycomb Calcite almost feels illuminated before you even touch it. My job as a sculptor is to reveal movement inside the stone without losing the magic that nature already placed there.”
We are deeply honored by this recognition and grateful to the Monochromica team for selecting these works for Issue 008.
