CEPHALAPSIS – ‘Paleozoic Crab Fossil’
Monterrey Marble
Many years ago in college, I experienced foraging for fossils in a Pennsylvania field. The teacher pointed to a rock and said hit that with your hammer. The rock split and revealed an “Ammonite” fossil in positive on one inner side and a “mold” on the other. I was hooked on Rocks and these millions-year-old sculptures. I recreated these “Stone Beings” in many shapes and sizes. This Mexican Monterrey Marble sculpture is an ancient Horseshoe Crab. They are not crabs but are ‘chelicerates’ which are early spiders. And they have 10 eyes!
