ANTHURIUM - ‘Lace Leaf’
Utah ‘Honeycomb’ Calcite
In 1923, renowned artist Georgia O'Keeffe immortalized the anthurium in a painting. I decided to do the same with this Utah Honeycomb Calcite sculpture. When I start on a block of stone, it’s not always apparent to me what it wants to be. I let the stone tell me as I work on it. The block of calcite I started with, seemed destined to be a thin, flowing shape, reminiscent of an Anthurium leaf. They are known by many names including “Love Shrub” and “Flamingo Flower”. What do you see?
